Do you breed for hobby or: hobby/commercial.

How many breeding couples have you got: 30.

What kind of Discus fish do you breed: Snakes skin, pigeon, golden pigeon, golden pigeon snakes, tangerines, alenquer, turquoise,golden.

I breed 5000 fish a year.

Are breeding couples prepared / treated for breeding? yes.
How: 1. Select breeding stocks from batches. 2. Feed them to suitable sizes 6 to 7 inches.
When: When they show sign of maturity 5 pieces are placed in 2.5 ftx1.5ftx1.5ft tank for pairing. When a pair is formed they are transfered to a breeding tank. Tap water stored for 24 hours is used. A sponge filter is used to lowered the ph .A pvc pipe is placed in the tank for the eggs.Initially ten drops of anti - fungus and bacreria solution is added to the water.
Why not: No anti chlorine solution needed as water changed is minimal, usually 10% .

On wich age are the couples formed: 18 to 24  months.

Up to which age do you breed with them: 3 to 4 year.

In what kind of water do you breed: Tap water and in which way do you prepare it: stored for a day.

How long do you have this water matured before the the breeding couple is placed? 24 hrs
And what is the temperature 27 to 30degree celcius.

Are breeding couples fed when they are breeding yes for: small quantity of food about 2 mouthful per day.

Do you renew water during the breeding: yes
How much: 10%
How often: once everyday until the eggs are laid.

Do you renew when there are larvae? no.

On wich day do you start feeding the larvae after they are swimming free?
day: 10.
how often: 2 times per day.
with what: artemia.

Do you renew the water during this period? yes.
what kind of water: tap water.
how much: 15%
Why: to remove the wastes to prevent fungus and bateria and to prevent the fry from straying away from the parents.

At wich moment do you remove the fry? from the breeding tank: 2 weeks after they started swimming.

What and how often do you feed the larvae?
what: Artemia.
how often: 3 times per day.

Dou you use vitamins, minerals, medication during this period?
what: vitamins-B complex,E and multivitamin. Anti fungus and bacteria solution.
how much: 1 tablet B complex and 1` tablet E for250g of food or 1 tablet multivitamin for 250g of food. .
why: Vitamins for growth and good health. Anti fungus and bacteria solution to prevent growth of fungus and bacteria.

Type here other important information:

  • Live or frozen bloodworms and tubifex are not used because they are usually contaminated with bacteria and parasites. These worms are normally breed in ponds where pig wastes chicken wastes and fish wastes are used as* fattening agents*
  • Discus will grow and breed just as good without feeding them with these worms.
  • Small fish1.5 to 2.5ins are proned to hole in the head desease. This can be prevented by feeding the small fish with small dosage of metrodinazol as they grow .
