How long have you bred Discusfish: since 1979 with long interruption, now since 1993.

I sell Discusfish to: individuals

Do you breed for hobby or: further hobby, now more and more professional.

How many breeding couples have you got: now 6 and about 80 semiadult wild discus to get more pairs at the end of this year.

What kind of Discusfish do you breed: German brilliant turquise, Wild Tefe, Wild Manacapuru, trying just Wild Rio Madeira Red, hope in winter Wild Coari, Wild Heckel Rio Abacaxis, Wild Blueface-Heckel and Rio Ica Red.

I breed planned 1.000 this year, from next year on about 6.000 fish a year.

Are breeding couples prepared / treated for breeding? no.
Why not: You cannot force wild discus to start breeding, the only thing you can do is making them feel well and keep them healthy and wait until they decide that it is time to start breeding.

On wich age are the couples formed: turquise about 15 months, the wild discus are different (see above).

Up to which age do you breed with them: as long as they want to.

How large are the breedingtanks: L70c to 80c x W60c x H45c to 60c
swimming out tanks:                     L140c to 180c x W60c x H55c to 70c

In what kind of water do you breed: 60 to 120 microS, pH 5,5 to 6 and in which way do you prepare it: Reverse osmosis water, a little bit water from the swimming tank and peat.

How long do you have this water matured before the the breeding couple is placed? 1 day
And what is the temperature 30 degrees C.

Are breeding couples fed when they are breeding yes for: all the time.

Do you renew water during the breeding yes.
How much: 1/20 of tank volume.
How often: daily.

Do you renew when there are larvae? yes.
How much: 1/20 of tank volume.
How often: daily.

On wich day do you start feeding the larvae after they are swimming free?
day: 4 to 8 days, depending on the number.
how often: 2 to 5 times a day, rising.
with what: nauplia of Artemia, later freeze dried food in tablets.

Do you renew the water during this period? yes.
what kind of water: tap water, 240 microS and pH 7,5.
how much: 1/20 to 1/10 of tank volume daily.
why: Continuous water renewing forces a better growing and minimizes the preasure of being infected.

At wich moment do you remove the fry from the breeding tank: 10 to 14 days, depending on the number of the kids.

What and how often do you feed the larvae?
what: nauplia of Artemia.
how often: 2 to 5 times a day, rising.

What and how often do you feed the larvae from week 1:
what: nauplia of Artemia.
how often: 2 to 5 times a day, rising.

What and how often do you feed the larvae from week 2:
what: nauplia of Artemia.
how often: up to seven times daily if the parents have been removed.

what and how often do you feed the larvae from week 3:
what: see above, additional Bosmidae and Lobster eggs.
how often: 7 times daily.

what: see week 3, additional Cyclops and Moina.
how often: 7 times daily.

what: see week 4, stop feeding of Artemia naupliae, additional frozen whole Artemia and fine reduced mussels.
how often: 6 to 7 times daily.

what and how often do you feed the larvae from week 6:
what: see week 5.
how often: 6 times daily.

what and how often do you feed the larvae from week 7:
what: see week 6, additional a special cow-heart mixture for young discus and black gnat larvae.
how often: 6 times daily.

what and how often do you feed the larvae from week 8:
what: see week 7.
how often: reduce to 5 times daily.

Dou you use vitamins, minerals, medication during this period? Yes
what: special vitamin combination, medication only if necessary.
how much: depends on number of young discus and tank volume.
why: to my opinion there is a better growing-rate when I use vitamins.
